Proud to support Living Wage week

Living Wage week

This week is Living Wage week and I met Ian, a cleaner for the council. He is one of nearly 1,500 Rotherham Council employees receiving the Living Wage for the first time this year.

Despite the budget challenges faced by the Council in recent years, Councillors passed a motion in September this year to introduce the Living Wage.

The introduction of the Living Wage will support those on the lowest pay, to provide some financial relief in what is a very difficult financial climate – and also boost spending in the local economy.

The Living Wage is an independent calculation that reflects the real cost of living, it rewards a fair day’s work with a fair day’s pay.
